One of Marleen’s choices for this list is Florblanca (thank you, Marleen!). All the hotels they chose had a common thread in their appreciation for nature and the gorgeous Costa Rican outdoors.
Marleen loved how the villas at Florblanca “hide under a green roof of tropical plants. But you can also walk to the beach from your jungle house. And that is precisely what makes Florblanca so special.” She especially loved the open nature of our villas where, with no roof over the bathroom, “you shower here literally among the plants.”

The contributor and writer, Roger Sands, makes note of the Blue Zone way of life here in the Nicoya Peninsula where “locals maintain a largely plant-based diet, avoiding most processed foods and meals typically consist of rice, beans, local vegetables and fruits incorporating meat only a few times a week.” He mentions our hook-to-fork cuisine, organic and locally sourced ingredients and highlights some of his favorite dishes, “Daily Catch Ceviche, Green Curried Prawn Salad and Grilled Local Octopus.”

It’s fitting that Costa Rica is such a popular destination for newlyweds on their honeymoon. Harper’s Bazaar Visits the Wilds of Costa Rica
Writer Alex Preston explored the diverse and wild oasis of Costa Rica for the travel section of the March 2018 issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
He started his weeks-long journey in the mountains, traveled among volcanoes and ziplines, jungles and beaches, and took in the wildlife, exotic fauna, adventure and luxuries along the way.
The last stop on his journey was our surf town of Santa Teresa and a stay at Florblanca. After surf sessions at Playa Hermosa (where one day the only other people there were Tom and Gisele), he would retreat to the beautiful sunsets, hammocks, and open-air, laid-back air of Florblanca.
We were so happy to host Alex during his explorations and absolutely love the piece he created as a document of his journey and an ode to Costa Rica.
Well + Good Magazine praises Florblanca’s Energy
Well + Good Magazine magazine had to see for themselves if Santa Teresa earns its popular nickname of “the new Tulum.” The verdict: Tulum can’t compete.
Kathryn Romeyn ventured to “the land of surf and yoga” and found that Santa Teresa is more than just a beautiful beach. It’s a place connected to the “elements of wild, primal living” with an energy that’s “like an amplifier and allows a healthy spirit to thrive.”
Kathryn highlights Florblanca’s Spa Bambu as a place to “indulge your spa dreams.” She also praises Florblanca’s bespoke Pilates sessions with Lucia.
The spa, pilates and yoga at Florblanca, along with other Santa Teresa attractions, like beachside horse rides, weekend community dances, and superfood cafes, make Santa Teresa a prime destination to relax and renew your energy.
Vogue Escapes to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica’s Idyllic, Healthy Oasis
Vogue travel writer, Kathryn Romeyn, visited Santa Teresa and quickly dismissed the popular perception that this destination is merely “the new Tulum.” As one of the world’s five Blue Zones, Santa Teresa in the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica is in a class of its own with a “rustic-bordering-on-primal” lifestyle centered around the natural environment spanning mountains, waterfalls, and the ocean.
Florblanca is featured as a luxury resort, “intimate and Edenic,” and is called out for embracing the outdoors and wildlife with its open-air villas, oceanfront yoga shala, exotic Spa Bambu, and spectacular sunsets.
Thank you to Kathryn and Vogue for such a perceptive and beautiful piece. We were so happy to have you visit our end of paradise.

In a Wanderlust piece for T Magazine, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica is described as having “an edge-of-the-world vibe that still feels remote and inspires dreams of relocation.” White sand beaches, near-perfect surf, horseback riding, and yoga accent our paradise with plenty of options for adventure, luxury, and delicious food. This piece highlights Florblanca as the most high-end hotel in Santa Teresa, with special mention of our villas, Spa Bambu, and Nectar Restaurant.

Congratulations to Stefano for such well-deserved recognition. Watch our yoga video and learn more about yoga at Florblanca.

Scattered along white-sand beaches, nine villas with open-air living rooms were built for relaxation. But a personal itinerary of surf lessons, sport fishing excursions, and yoga classes will keep adventurers busy.”

New York Times Sunday Travel
Florblanca is thrilled to have been a part of a New York Times Travel article profiling our home town, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Journalist Dave Seminara was a guest at Florblanca recently and he saw the opportunity to spotlight an important issue in our small town that is sure to reverberate with other off-the-beaten-path tourist destinations.
The article – In a Costa Rican Beach Town, the Road Less Paved – sheds light on the wear and tear of the increasingly busy dirt roads leading to and from Santa Teresa. The stress on these roads from traffic creates an extremely bumpy car ride and also generates a great deal of dust during the dry season and mud during the green season, making pedestrian traffic more challenging.
People in town have differing opinions about solutions for the roads and Mr. Seminara reveals the complexities of the issues for residents, business owners, expats, and travelers.
Condé Nast Traveller

After an exhilarating day in the surf, recovery was aided by deep tissue massages at our very own Spa Bambu followed by a delicious, nutritious, fresh and healthy dinner at Nectar, our laid back yet elegant restaurant.

As if we needed anything to make our Florblanca beach more beautiful. We think this W Magazine spread did the trick!
CNN Travel
CNN Travel recently toured Costa Rica, profiling some of the more upscale hotels and resort communities. Lucky for us, they planned a stop in Santa Teresa where “the wide white-sand beaches of Santa Teresa have become Costa Rica’s hippest luxury escape.” Florblanca is mentioned in the article as a full-service resort “that won’t disappoint.”
Among the highlights of our resort, the author mentions horseback riding, surfing and yoga. She also mentions Costa Rica’s Sustainable Tourism Program that qualifies resorts to be designated as eco-friendly. We are proud to have earned 4 leaves out of a possible 5 and a Certificate of Sustainable Tourism through that program.
Outside Magazine
The word is out! Florblanca Resort has been featured in Outside Magazine as one of their Life Changing Adventure Trips for Surfing. We couldn’t be more pleased to be recognized by this publication and we hope to continue to impress our guests with our accommodations and amenities.
Surfers looking for a place to rest after a day of riding the waves will feel right at home at Florblanca’s Surf House. This fairly recent addition to our resort offers a spectacular oceanfront vista, three air-conditioned sleeping rooms, one bathroom, large refrigerator and plenty of comfy outdoor seating. Able to accommodate up to six guests, the Surf House is the perfect place to bring a group – and at only $400/night for two people ($50/night per additional guest), this is one vacation that won’t break the bank. See our Villas and Rates.
Travel + Leisure
Here’s what the popular vacation travel magazine Travel + Leisure has to say about Florblanca Resort in it’s article “Costa Rica’s Hottest new Hotels and Lodges.”
“It’s not often that you come across an Asian-inspired resort in Costa Rica-especially one located on Playa Santa Teresa’s best surf break. Here, it’s more about blissing out than riding the waves. There are only a few dozen guests at any time, and everything is designed to soothe-from the boulder-studded pool, where you’ll feel like you’re swimming in an aqueous Zen garden, to the bamboo spa bungalow, with its ponds and shoji screens. Each of Florblanca’s 11 villas is accented with organic fabrics and native hardwoods, and all have terraces outfitted with hammocks. (Book the Surf House, steps from the ocean.) After an evening yoga class on the beach, kick back with a tamarind mojito-or two-from the open-air Nectar bar.”
Frommers
Frommers listed Florblanca as one of the Best Luxury Hotels in Costa Rica. Here is what they say about our resort:
“The individual villas at this intimate resort are some of the largest and most luxurious in the country. The service and food are outstanding, and the location is breathtaking, spread over a lushly planted hillside steps away from Playa Santa Teresa.”
