Casa de Restauracion | Eco-Village for Women & Children

Supporting the health and wellbeing of our local community is one of the central tenets of our Sustainability Program here at Florblanca.  We buy locally to support farmers, crafters, and artisans; we hire locally; we provide workshops and training; and we support groups and organizations in our area.

One of the local nonprofits we support is Casa de Restauracion.

This is a shelter near Cobano for women and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and poverty.   We held a Buy a Star Fundraiser at the end of 2020 to help provide the resources the shelter needs to serve our community.  With the funds raised during that campaign, we were able to build a new room to accommodate two teenage girls who urgently needed shelter from a desperate situation.  They are living at the shelter and doing much better at the moment thanks to your generous donations.

Casa de Restauracion was also in need of a new piece of property to expand the shelter.  Together, we found the perfect location on the main road just a few minutes past Cobano.  As we were busy raising funds to go towards this purchase, a beautiful family who recently moved to the area generously bought this 4.3 hectacre property, and is eager to see the shelter evolve into the space it so desperately needs.  The land is so special, with a river, rolling hills, and lots of beautiful trees.

We were able to use some of the remaining funds raised during the campaign to pursue the due diligence of the new property, planting lots of multiple palms along the fence, and doing some soil studies as well as level studies. Other parts of the funds are going toward obtaining a well for this new property to ensure we have pure clean water for the women and children.

Our long term vision for this new shelter is to create an eco-village for women and children, focusing on organic nutritious food, a sense of community, peaceful green environment, and an open approach to education and human enlightenment.  We envision the space to be one of  hope, kindness and compassion-a loving community that is intertwined with nature and focused on a healthy and peaceful future for our planet.

We are launching our next round of fundraising to build out Phase 1.  This includes building the first house to hold up to 25 kids as well as a guard house, a mother’s casita, a parking area, a garden, and a common area for meals and activities.  We have a longer term vision that includes building a school, a boutique where women can explore the options of a micro business, and more housing to host up to 75 kids.  For now, we will start small and grow as we can.

We have been so encouraged with your support in this endeavor and with the support of our global community.  Casa de Restauracion is important to the health and wellbeing of our local area and we feel so strongly about our vision for this eco-friendly, safe, and supportive village for women and children.

Thank you for your continued support to help us realize this vision.  If you are interested in learning and possibly donating, please reach our to our General Manager, Cody Dillon, here.
