Celebrating World Sea Turtle Day
Sea Turtles are amazing migratory marine animals who are considered a keystone species. This means they are a critical part of their environment and influence other species around them. However, their very existence is threatened with extinction due to poaching, habitat destruction, accidental capture, climate change, and pollution.
This celebration of World Sea Turtle Day brings important attention and awareness to these creatures who have inhabited our oceans for more than 100 million years, filling a vital role in the balance of marine habitats. (Source: WWF Infographic on Sea Turtles).
With Florblanca’s focus on sustainability and eco-tourism, we created a partnership with a local nonprofit, CIRENAS, an organization whose vision seeks to honor the relationship with land and community through an environmentally friendly design, development and interaction with natural surroundings.
Our partnership with CIRENAS focuses on Sea Turtle Preservation through programs where our guests can volunteer at their Sea Turtle Refuge to watch for nesting or hatching and to perform activities such as nest cleaning, tree planting, or small maintenance work in the refuge.

We hope you can join us in the future to take part in a volunteer adventure. For guests involved in our Voluntourism program, we’re offering a 5th night free on your stay!
