Sustainability at Florblanca – Analysis & Training

The management and staff at Florblanca Resort are extremely proud of our efforts at achieving sustainability and eco-friendly practices at our hotel and in our community. In 2011, we were awarded 4 out of 5 leaves for the Certificate of Sustainable Tourism from the Costa Rica Tourist Board (ICT). We are set to be evaluated again this year and are striving to earn 5 out of 5 leaves!

Here are some of our sustainability practices that qualify us as an eco-friendly resort. In this post, we will discuss two specific elements of our sustainability efforts – Auto Analysis and Recycling & Waste Management. In a later post, we’ll talk about our efforts with Conservation and Community.

Analysis – Our staff at Florblanca actively engages in data collection and measurement to ensure that we are having a positive effect on our environment and our surroundings. We analyze our patterns and behavior in the following areas to ensure our efforts for sustainability are being met:
- Water and Energy Consumption
- Electrical Equipment and Emergency Plans
- Employee Training
- Guest Feedback and Ideas for Sustainable Tourism

Recycling and Waste Management – In an effort to reduce pollution of our immediate and surrounding environment, Florblanca engages in strict recycling and waste management efforts. In addition to our own practices at the resort, we also strive to be promoters of recycling and waste management in our community. Here are some of the ways that we work on a promote this program:
- Clean Up in and around Playa Hermosa
- Blue Flag Program Participation
- Composting
- Community Recycling
- Paper Recycling
- UV Lamps for Purified Water
We work hard everyday to stay on track with our current sustainability efforts and, through our analysis and data, we constantly strive to make new and better changes to ensure that we have a positive impact on our surroundings. We look forward to the next evaluation for the Sustainable Tourism CST – we know we can get those 5 leaves!
