Best Time to Surf in Costa Rica?

Known as a hot surf destination, the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica is indeed a surfers’ paradise. With warm and clear water in every season, and few people in the line ups, the conditions are pretty much perfect year round.

Along the Nicoya Peninsula, surfing can be divided into two seasons. The dry season (November-May) and the Green Season (May-October).
In the dry season, warm water, clear, sunny conditions, and sandy beach breaks with consistent head high waves are what to expect. Of course with conditions this ideal, the word has gotten out and quite a few of Costa Rica’s surf spots have become very crowded. Santa Teresa’s beach breaks, just steps from Florblanca, is still the best kept secret. There are many peaks to choose from and endless waves for all.
In the green season, our swells come in from the south making for larger and more powerful waves. In addition to Santa Teresa beach breaks, a few excellent point breaks produce perfect tubes in this season.
For surfers, Florblanca has it all. In addition to our luxurious private accommodations, extensive amenities, and world-class Nectar restaurant, our ocean front location is the icing on the cake for any level of surfer. The sandy beach break right out front is a forgiving spot for beginning surfers to practice popping up, and riding all the way to the beach. For the more experienced, paddling out from Florblanca means never having to fight for your spot in the lineup.
Imagine starting your day with a light desayuno, a quick warm up at the yoga dojo, an invigorating surf session, time at the Bambu Spa, and then a healthy, delicious lunch, poolside. Before the day is over, a quick nap under the palms may be just what you need to recharge for those late afternoon barrels!
